Study Finds DOACs Effective for Adolescent VTE

A study analyzed the safety and efficacy of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in managing adolescent venous thromboembolism (VTE). Rivaroxaban was the most common DOAC. The review found a low incidence of VTE recurrence at 0.02%. Complete or partial thrombus resolution was achieved in 76.6% of rivaroxaban participants and 83.9% in the dabigatran. In other studies, resolution rates ranged from 68.4% to 83.3%. Major bleeding events were rare, with only one patient. Overall, DOAC therapy was found to be safe and effective for adolescent VTE management, with favorable outcomes and a low incidence of serious adverse events.
