A recent single-center cross-sectional case-control study delves into the association between arterial hypertension (HTN) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Echocardiographic and plasma-derived indices of left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and low-grade systemic inflammation were compared in 30 HCM patients with HTN (HTN+) and 30 age- and sex-matched HCM patients without HTN (HTN-). While measures of LV dysfunction were similar, HTN+ patients exhibited higher levels of white blood cells, interleukin-6, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, suggesting a link between hypertension and systemic inflammation in HCM patients.
