A study examined the link between oral microbial nitrate metabolism and outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. In a prospective, observational cohort of 124 AIS patients admitted within 24 hours of symptom onset, oral swabs, and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure data were collected. Analysis revealed significant differences in oral microbiota composition based on systolic blood pressure variability, with lower variability linked to an abundance of nitrate-reducing bacteria. These bacteria correlated with a better 90-day prognosis, suggesting their potential role in AIS outcomes.
