Study Finds Statins Reduce Risk of Recurrent Venous Thromboembolism

A large real-world study investigated the association between statin use and recurrent VTE. Patients were divided into statins (N = 865) and no statins (N = 4,332) groups. The statins group showed a lower cumulative 5-year incidence of recurrent VTE compared to the no statins group (6.8% vs. 10.1%, Log-rank P = 0.01), even after adjusting for confounders (HR 0.65, 95% CI 0.45–0.91, P = 0.01). Additionally, statins were associated with a lower risk of major bleeding, although this effect became insignificant after adjusting for confounders.
