Study Identifies Key Factors in Managing Heavy Menstrual Bleeding in Adolescents

A retrospective study of 205 adolescents with heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) identified clinical indicators and treatment factors. Hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis immaturity was found in 63.9%, bleeding disorders (BD) in 13.7%, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in 12.2%. BD patients had lower hemoglobin levels and more frequent inpatient admissions. Hormonal treatments, especially higher doses, were linked to lower Hb levels and more ER visits. The study highlights the need for standardized treatment protocols for HMB in adolescents.
