A groundbreaking study analyzed data from 400 patients diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). The findings revealed that age over 45, a body mass index of 25 or higher, tumour size exceeding 1 cm, BRAF V600E mutation and capsular invasion are significant risk factors for central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) in PTC patients. A robust clinical prediction model was developed, offering a valuable tool for preoperative assessment. The study emphasizes the importance of accurately identifying BRAF V600E mutations in guiding treatment decisions, particularly for patients with clinically nodal-negative papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.
