
This study investigates the impact of betamethasone retreatment on severe intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) in infants born before 28 weeks. Observing 410 infants, it finds that a longer interval between betamethasone doses increases IVH risk. Infants receiving retreatment within 10 days show reduced IVH rates compared to those without retreatment. Following revised guidelines encouraging earlier retreatment, IVH rates significantly decreased among infants born after 10 days. These findings suggest that while the protective effects of betamethasone diminish over time, retreatment restores its efficacy in preventing severe IVH in preterm births.
