Study Links Glaucoma to Increased Dementia Risks

A study examined the association between glaucoma and dementia risks. Analyzing data from over 3 million individuals, the study found that those diagnosed with glaucoma faced higher risks of Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia (VaD), and all-cause dementia compared to controls. Both primary open-angle and normal-tension glaucoma were linked to increased AD and VaD risks, especially in individuals diagnosed at ages 70 and older. These findings suggest a need for enhanced dementia monitoring in individuals with glaucoma, potentially aiding in earlier detection and treatment.
