The day-to-day environment surrounding the child influences its physical, social, and emotional well-being. The study was conducted to understand how children's and their parents' perception of outdoor play spaces affects their outdoor participation. This paper suggests a conceptual framework that defines the set of participation and factors influencing the motivation of involvement in the outdoor environment. The quantitative study of parents' interviews and qualitative analysis of children's sketches highlight different aspects like play and mobility range, open space visitation, children's activities, spatial qualities of the available space and perception of children and their parents. The findings revealed differences in parents' and children's perceptions of risk in open spaces.
