A recent descriptive cross-sectional study in Northwestern Nigeria focused on diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), a major cause of hospital admissions in diabetes mellitus cases. Examining 394 diabetes patients, predominantly with type 2 diabetes, the study identified DFU in 14.5% of participants. Key risk factors included older age, longer diabetes duration, peripheral neuropathy, arterial disease, retinopathy, nephropathy, foot deformities, previous DFU, and poor glycemic control. The findings stress the importance of early diabetes detection and treatment to prevent complications like DFU.
