
A recent study investigated the alterations in cerebral blood flow (CBF) in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients with restless legs syndrome (RLS) using the arterial spin labelling (ASL) technique. The study compared 31 MHD patients with RLS (MHD-RLS group) to 31 without RLS (MHD-nRLS group). Results showed increased CBF in the right superior temporal gyrus and reduced CBF in several brain regions in the MHD-RLS group. Notably, reduced CBF in the left precentral gyrus correlated with higher RLS scores and was identified as an independent risk factor for RLS. Extended hemodialysis duration and low serum iron levels were also found to be risk factors.
