In a retrospective, single-centre study, bone health and related factors were examined in children with severe cerebral palsy. Comprehensive bone evaluations were conducted, including clinical, densitometric, and biomarker assessments. None of the 19 children studied had a normal BMCTBLH Z score, and only one had a BMDTBLH Z score exceeding −2. Excessive bone remodelling was suggested by biomarker data, with age, weight, and pubertal stage significantly influencing bone mass. Findings underscore the inadequate increase in bone mass with age and affirm the prevalent low bone mineral density in these children. Suggested preventive measures include calcium + vitamin D supplementation and managing underweight and delayed puberty. Follow-up utilizing bone remodelling markers may be valuable.
