Study Reveals Core Symptoms Linking Adolescent Non-Suicidal Self-Injury and Severe Depression

A recent study investigated the co-occurrence of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and depression in adolescents with severe clinical symptoms. Conducted in psychiatric outpatient clinics, the study involved 248 participants, aged 15.48 on average. Findings demonstrated a high incidence of depression (94.76%) among those with NSSI, mostly severe cases. Network analysis identified crucial symptoms such as "feeling bad," "little interest or pleasure," and "feeling tired," with NSSI-8, "frequent thinking about self-injury," serving as a vital bridging symptom. This comprehensive exploration aids in understanding and potentially treating the comorbidity between adolescent NSSI and depression.
