A retrospective cohort study analyzed 2547 COVID-19 patients hospitalized from March to December 2020. Evaluating various factors, including BMI, comorbidities, and patient outcomes, the study found that obesity alone wasn't an independent factor for adverse outcomes. Instead, the critical clinical state, measured by SAPS-3 score, emerged as the key variable influencing mortality, mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, and vasoactive drug use. The study highlights the nuanced relationship between obesity and COVID-19 outcomes, emphasizing the importance of overall clinical status.
