A recent study analyzed an endoscopy database from January 2016 to January 2021 involving 1137 patients who underwent stent removal or repeat endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The study aimed to determine the rate of proximal biliary plastic stent migration (PSM), retrieval outcomes, and associated factors. Results indicated a 6.5% PSM rate, with successful retrieval in 94.59% of cases. Factors such as stent size, duration of indwelling stent, sphincteroplasty, and bile duct dilation were linked to increased PSM risk. Propensity score matching highlighted 7-Fr stent size and prolonged stent indwelling as significant contributors to proximal migration.
