
A study investigated the impact of noninvasive imaging metrics on the onset of outer retinal atrophy in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections. Among 370 patients, 33% developed complete outer retinal atrophy over 2 years. Factors such as intraretinal fluid, Sattler choroidal layer thinning, late anti-VEGF switch, injection frequency, and MNV perfusion characteristics were linked to atrophy onset. Lesser relevance was observed in other metrics. These findings suggest the potential for tailored anti-VEGF treatments.
