Study Reveals Incidence of Taste Disorders and Alopecia in Myasthenia Gravis Patients

A study examined 1710 patients assessed taste disorders and alopecia in MG. Of the patients, 6.1% experienced taste disorders, and 8.2% had alopecia. Taste disorders were more prevalent in women, severe MG cases, refractory MG, and thymoma-associated MG, while less common in ocular MG. Alopecia was associated with bulbar palsy and thymoma, occurring before MG onset. Treatments showed varying efficacy for both conditions. Multivariate analysis linked taste disturbance with worse MG scores and thymoma-associated MG, while alopecia was associated with thymoma. The findings emphasize vigilance for non-motor symptoms in MG, particularly in severe cases and those with thymoma.
