Study Reveals Infrared Laser Therapy Eases Fatigue in Breast Cancer Survivors

In a study, 140 female breast cancer survivors with moderate to severe fatigue were randomized to receive infrared laser moxibustion (ILM), sham ILM, or Waitlist control (WLC). The primary outcome, assessed in the intention-to-treat population, showed that compared to WLC, ILM significantly reduced the average Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) score by 0.9 points at week 6 and by 1.1 points at week 18. Additionally, ILM demonstrated a significant reduction in fatigue compared to sham ILM at week 18. The study concluded that ILM was safe and significantly reduced fatigue, suggesting the need for future adequately powered trials to verify its efficacy against the sham control. No serious adverse events were reported.
