A study conducted between May 1st and December 30th, 2022, involving 130 elective craniotomy patients, found that 49% experienced preoperative sleep disturbances, significantly increasing the risk of postoperative delirium (POD) by 2.7 times. Age and urinary catheterization duration were also identified as risk factors. Perioperative sleep patterns, including latency, deep sleep duration, and awakenings, were associated with POD. The study emphasizes the urgent need for targeted screening and intervention for sleep disturbances during the perioperative period in craniotomy patients.
