Study Reveals Presence of Microplastics in Prostate Tissue from TUR-P Patients

A study aimed to investigate the presence of microplastics in prostate tissue from patients undergoing Trans transurethral resection of the Prostate (TUR-P). Microplastic particles were detected in tissues from 6 out of 12 patients, all measuring below 26 μm. These microplastics exhibited varied shapes, including pellets, spheres, and fibres. Chemical analysis identified four types of plastic, with Polyamide (Nylon 6) being the most common. This pioneering study is the first to reveal microplastic presence in prostate tissue, suggesting a need for further research to validate findings in a larger patient cohort.
