Study Reveals Racial Disparities in Depression Diagnosis Among Prostate Cancer Patients on Androgen Deprivation Therapy

A study examining depression rates in prostate cancer patients on androgen deprivation therapy reveals concerning racial disparities. The study showed a 60% increased likelihood of depression development with this therapy. Shockingly, only 35% received antidepressants. Further analysis exposed a 30% higher depression diagnosis rate in White patients compared to Black counterparts, with Whites also more likely to receive first-line antidepressants. The findings emphasize the need for equitable healthcare practices and tailored screening initiatives to address systemic disparities in depression management.
