Study Reveals Reduced Glymphatic System Function in Poor Anti‐Seizure Medication Responders with Focal Epilepsy

A new study investigates the glymphatic system's function in focal epilepsy patients compared to healthy controls and its association with anti-seizure medication (ASM) response. The study retrospectively analyzed 100 focal epilepsy patients with normal brain MRI results, categorizing them as "poor" or "good" ASM responders based on seizure control during brain MRI. Results show a significant difference in the DTI-ALPS index between focal epilepsy patients and healthy controls. It is lower in focal epilepsy patients, especially in poor ASM responders, indicating a potential correlation with age and epilepsy duration.
