Study Shows MRI-Guided Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy Enhances Outcomes in Liver Tumor Patients

The study investigated the impact of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)-guided Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) on liver tumour outcomes and toxicity. Examining 35 patients aged 25 to 95, the one-year Overall Survival (OS) was 77.7%, reaching an estimated 47.9% at three years. Locally controlled disease correlated with a superior median OS of 27.8 months compared to 13.5 months in cases with local progression. The one-year Freedom from Local Progression (FFLP) was 95.6%, and a biologically equivalent dose≥100 Gy demonstrated a longer FFLP (30.9 months) compared to <100 Gy (13.3 months). The study concludes that MRI-guided SBRT offers optimal local control and improved OS in a challenging patient demographic with reasonable safety profiles.
