Study Shows Single-Pill Combination Therapy Effective for Hypertension Control

In a study conducted evaluated the efficacy of a single-pill combination therapy for hypertension. The study included adults with mild-to-moderate hypertension who initially received perindopril/indapamide bi-therapy. Those with uncontrolled blood pressure (BP) were randomized to receive either perindopril 5 mg/indapamide 1.25 mg/amlodipine 5 mg (Per/Ind/Aml) single-pill combination or a combination of perindopril 4 mg/indapamide 1.25 mg plus amlodipine 5 mg (Per/Ind + Aml) for 6 months. Results showed that Per/Ind/Aml was noninferior to Per/Ind + Aml in lowering systolic BP at 2 months, with comparable effectiveness in controlling diastolic BP and achieving office BP control (<140/90 mmHg). Ambulatory BP monitoring demonstrated sustained BP control over 24 hours. Both treatments were well tolerated.
