
A study investigated the effects of oral spironolactone (SPL) treatment on skin biophysical properties in 25 women with acne over 6 months. Parameters including skin hydration, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), skin surface lipid (SSL) levels, mechanical properties, color, pH, and pore size were assessed at baseline and 2, 4, and 6 months. Facial skin showed stable hydration, TEWL, SSL levels, pH, and pore size, with improved skin elasticity and tiring effects observed by 4 to 6 months. Mechanical properties R0 (skin tightness) and R1 (elasticity) significantly decreased, indicating improved skin condition. Similar trends were noted in the truncal and inner arm areas. SPL did not compromise the skin barrier and demonstrated beneficial effects on skin mechanical properties during acne treatment.
