The study identified significant barriers in dental care for adults with severe obesity, as reported by dental professionals and support staff in Australia. Through focus groups and interviews with 34 participants, challenges such as limited bariatric dental service provisions, safety concerns, and clinical constraints were highlighted. Key enablers included improved access to bariatric dental chairs, modifications in clinical environments, and targeted education for both patients and dental teams. Findings suggest an urgent need for systemic changes in health policies, equipment, and training to enhance dental care for individuals with severe obesity and address current gaps in service provision.
