An electronic survey collected data from 70 nurses at a large quaternary care facility. Findings revealed that while over 95% of nurses were comfortable with sedation and delirium scoring, those with under 5 years of experience found these scores more useful and were more likely to agree on their effectiveness. However, newer nurses were less comfortable expressing concerns to attending physicians. The study highlights the need for improved communication and educational strategies to address these issues and enhance patient care.

Current care emphasizes diagnosis, limited targeted testing, disease monitoring and stepwise treatment, beginning with second-generation H1-antihistamines and up-dosing when needed. Omalizumab and newer therapies such as dupilumab and remibrutinib expand options for refractory disease, while future care may be guided by biomarkers and disease endotypes.

A meta-analysis of five randomized controlled trials found that as-needed ICS–SABA significantly reduced asthma exacerbations compared with SABA-only reliever therapy.
