Study Uncovers Pediatric ICU Nurses’ Perspectives on Sedation Management

A recent study aimed to enhance understanding of pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' views on sedation management to improve sedation assessment, titration, and communication. An electronic survey collected data from 70 nurses at a large quaternary care facility. Findings revealed that while over 95% of nurses were comfortable with sedation and delirium scoring, those with under 5 years of experience found these scores more useful and were more likely to agree on their effectiveness. However, newer nurses were less comfortable expressing concerns to attending physicians. The study highlights the need for improved communication and educational strategies to address these issues and enhance patient care.
