Surgical High Dependency Admissions after Elective Laparoscopic Colorectal Resections: Is It Truly Necessary?

This study assesses the effectiveness of Surgical High Dependency (SHD) after laparoscopic colectomy by comparing outcomes with GW patients. A review of colorectal cancer patients undergoing elective laparoscopic colectomy was conducted. SHD patients had higher ASA scores, age, blood loss, yet similar post-op complications and interventions as GW patients. Though GW patients were healthier, SHD's benefits warrant further study, especially for high-risk patients using remote vital signs monitoring in GW.
