Survival analysis of implants placed simultaneously with lateral sinus floor elevation in severely atrophic maxilla: A 3‐ to 12‐year retrospective cohort study

A study examined the long-term survival of dental implants placed simultaneously with lateral sinus floor elevation (LSFE) in the severely atrophic maxilla (residual bone height [RBH] ≤3 mm). The study found that implants in sites with RBH ≤3 mm had a 6-year cumulative survival rate (CSR) of 95.7% and a 12-year CSR of 76.6%. However, caution is advised for implantation in sites with RBH ≤2 mm, as the 10-year CSR dropped significantly to 53.3%. Smoking was identified as a risk factor for long-term implant survival.
