The study aimed to determine the prevalence of sepsis, inpatient mortality, ICU admissions, inpatient admissions/readmissions, and trends in sepsis prevalence and inpatient mortality after ureteroscopy (URS) in employed adults aged 18-64 years. Among 109,496 patients who underwent URS, 5.6% developed sepsis, and sepsis was associated with increased 30-day inpatient mortality, ICU and hospital admission, and hospital readmission rates. The prevalence of sepsis after URS increased from 4.7% to 6.6% during the study period, while associated mortality rates decreased from 0.7% to 0.2%. The study emphasizes the potentially deadly consequences of sepsis after URS in younger patients.

A randomized trial in 709 children with newly diagnosed high-risk B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia found that replacing two cycles of conventional chemotherapy with blinatumomab increased estimated 4-year event-free survival to 83.0% versus 70.3%. Treatment-related infections and life-threatening adverse events were also less frequent, although neurotoxic events were more common with blinatumomab.

An interim analysis of a 10,799-patient European trial found that starting surveillance colonoscopy 5 years after removal of high-risk adenomas was noninferior to starting at 3 years. A 10-year retrospective study of 945 patients at a Lebanese tertiary care center reported a 2.65% prevalence of post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage. Secondary bleeding accounted for 92% of cases and typically occurred around postoperative day 7. Adults had higher bleeding rates than children (7.4% vs. 1.9%), with adult age independently associated with increased risk (aOR 2.93).
