A recent study in The American Journal of Sports Medicine highlights the success of suture-bridge fixation in treating knee injuries, specifically osteochondral lesions (OCLs) and osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) lesions. The technique involves using bioabsorbable knotless anchors and hand-tensioned absorbable or nonabsorbable bridging sutures. Out of 40 knees treated, 82.5% showed full union on MRI assessment, with 89.5% OCLs and 64.3% OCD lesions achieving complete union. Patients returned to sports within 6.5 months on average, reporting improved quality of life and pain scores. This approach demonstrates the potential for effective lesion salvage with minimal complications.
