The association between normal 50-g glucose challenge test results and risk for future metabolic morbidities

A recent study conducted in Israel has unveiled a surprising connection between normal glucose challenge test (GCT) results during pregnancy and future maternal health. The study, spanning 15 years and involving 77,568 women, found that GCT results between 120-139 mg/dL, considered normal, were linked to a higher risk of future metabolic issues in mothers. Specifically, those with results in the 120-129 mg/dL range had a 15% increased risk, while those with results in the 130-139 mg/dL range faced a 32% higher risk of metabolic morbidity. These findings suggest that even within the normal range, GCT results might signal future health risks for mothers.
