This study examined the influence of age, sex, race, and insurance status on the use of antipsychotic medications in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Of 27,137 ICU encounters, 22.8% received antipsychotics. Age, male gender, and public insurance were associated with increased use of antipsychotics, while black race was linked to decreased usage. These findings emphasize the need to consider patient demographics when prescribing antipsychotic medications in ICU settings.
