The association of stroke with mental and physical disorders in US adults

A recent study reveals that stroke and its associated health problems significantly impact public health. Based on a national sample, the study found that 0.82% of participants had a stroke in the past year. Those with stroke had higher rates of mental disorders such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, tobacco use disorder, and opioid use disorder. Additionally, stroke was linked to 24 out of 27 physical conditions studied. People who had a stroke experienced lower mental and physical quality of life. The study emphasizes that these effects are not just due to accompanying conditions but are directly linked to stroke itself, highlighting the urgent public health concern.
