A study investigated the impact of a 10-12 month daily use of arginine and probiotics lozenge on dental health in 5-9-year-old children. 343 children were split into intervention (received lozenge with probiotics and arginine) and placebo (received lozenge without). Caries and dental conditions were examined clinically and radiographically. Caries increase was significantly lower in the intervention group, but no effect on plaque or gingivitis was found. No adverse effects were reported. Although the lozenge showed potential as a supplementary tool for managing caries, it didn't affect plaque or gingivitis. The study concluded that the use of a lozenge with arginine and probiotics combined has a promising potential as a supplementary tool for future management of caries.
