The effectiveness of physiotherapy for patients with isolated cervical dystonia

Recent clinical trials are shedding light on the potential benefits of physiotherapy (PT) in treating cervical dystonia, a movement disorder marked by twisted muscle contractions. A review encompassing 14 articles and a meta-analysis of two studies showed that when coupled with botulinum toxin (BoNT) injection, PT significantly reduced pain (scale: -5.00, 95% CI -6.26, -3.74). Positive effects were also observed in disease severity, disability, and quality of life. The recommendation is to incorporate PT alongside BoNT for pain alleviation, although diverse PT types and durations warrant further research for specific recommendations.
