The Future of Living Donor Nephrectomy: How Vascular Closure Devices are Transforming the Procedure

The study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the safety of vascular closure devices for laparoscopic and robotic living donor nephrectomy. The study included 44 studies with 42,902 patients and found that there were no significant differences in safety outcomes between the use of clips and staplers. Device failure was lower in the polymer clip group based on weak evidence. The study concluded that there is no evidence for the superiority of any vascular closure device in terms of safety, and recommended that standardized recommendations for vascular control should be carefully designed and prospectively evaluated.
