The study compared 47,776 nondiabetic and 2307 diabetic patients from 2015 to 2017. Diabetic patients had higher incidences of obesity, dyspnea, and other comorbidities. After adjusting for various factors, diabetes was linked to increased odds of acute renal failure, wound disruption, prolonged length of stay, and other complications. These findings highlight the importance of managing diabetes in surgical patients to improve outcomes.
