This study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of time-restricted feeding on individuals with suspected GERD, an ailment often managed through lifestyle adjustments. In this study, patients undergoing 96-hour ambulatory wireless pH monitoring were screened, with 36% fully adhering to the intermittent fasting regimen and 84% showing partial compliance. Notably, intermittent fasting led to a modest reduction in acid exposure time, suggesting potential benefits. Additionally, GERD symptom scores for heartburn and regurgitation improved during fasting periods. In conclusion, the initial adherence to time-restricted eating may pose challenges for patients. Nonetheless, there is some statistical evidence indicating that intermittent fasting may mildly reduce acid exposure, and the data show that it can improve regurgitation and heartburn symptoms in the short term.
