The impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions on community non-SARS-CoV-2 respiratory infections in preschool children

The LoewenKIDS cohort study examines the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) on acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in preschool children during the pandemic. Comparing data from pre-pandemic and pandemic periods, it finds a significant reduction in overall ARI incidence during the pandemic, driven by decreased detection of various respiratory viruses except for rhinoviruses. Co-detection of multiple viruses declined substantially. These findings underscore the effectiveness of NPIs in reducing respiratory infections in children but highlight the resilience of rhinoviruses to these interventions.
