This single-center, retrospective study examined the incidence and clinical characteristics of thrombosis in Chinese patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Among 3,216 adult patients with primary ITP, 0.93% experienced thrombotic events, with a mean age of 62.76 years, and included 11 males and 14 females. Out of the 25 thrombotic events, 19 were arterial thrombosis (AT), and 6 were venous thrombosis (VT), indicating a higher incidence of AT compared to VT (P=0.009). Most patients (92%) had low platelet counts at the time of thrombosis (<100× 109/L). This study suggests that ITP, typically seen as a bleeding disorder, also carries a risk of thrombosis, with arterial events being more frequent than venous events in the Chinese population.
