The influence of maternal respiratory allergy on obstetrics and perinatal outcomes

The study aimed to examine the impact of respiratory allergies on obstetrics and perinatal outcomes. A retrospective study was conducted on 41,035 pregnant women, comparing the outcomes of those with and without respiratory allergies. The results showed that women with respiratory allergies had higher rates of preterm delivery and low birth weight; however, this was mainly due to a higher rate of multiple gestations, which was more common in the respiratory allergy group. After adjusting for multiple gestations, there was no significant difference in the perinatal outcomes between the two groups. The study suggests that inflammatory mechanisms should be further investigated.
