The neuropathology of intimate partner violence

A new study has found that women who experience intimate partner violence (IPV) are at increased risk of developing neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). The study analyzed data from 84 women who had died from IPV. The researchers found that 25% of the women had evidence of Alzheimer's disease, and 10% had evidence of CTE. The researchers believe that the increased risk of neurodegenerative diseases in women with IPV may be due to several factors, including repeated head trauma, stress, and social isolation.
