The potential of the Mediterranean diet to improve metabolic control and body composition in with Diabetes Mellitus

A recent study examined the effects of the Mediterranean diet (MD) on children aged 6-18 with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM). The study found that good adherence to the MD improved metabolic control and body composition. Specifically, better MD adherence was linked to higher height SDS and lower body fat, while a one-point increase in the KIDMED score correlated with a 0.314-unit reduction in HbA1c levels. The findings underscore the need to raise awareness among T1DM patients and their families about the benefits of MD for better glycemic and metabolic outcomes.
