The Protective Effect of Rho-Associated Kinase Inhibitor Eye Drops on Corneal Endothelial Cells After Cataract Surgery

A study assessed the protective effect of ripasudil eye drops on corneal endothelial cells post-cataract surgery. The non-randomized study involved 43 patients with grade 3 nuclear cataract. The ripasudil group (22 patients) received the eye drops post-surgery, while the control group (21 patients) did not. Results showed a significant reduction in endothelial cell loss (ECL) in the ripasudil group (4.5%) compared to the control group (12.8%). Central corneal thickness (CCT), age, sex, and surgery duration did not significantly affect outcomes. Incorporating ripasudil into postoperative care could help preserve corneal endothelial integrity, potentially reducing the need for further interventions.
