The study aimed to assess the burden of liver complications related to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (LC-NAFLD) in China from 2005 to 2019. Using data from the Global Burden of Disease, the study found that in 2019, China had 293.42 million cases of LC-NAFLD with a prevalence rate of 20.63 per 1000 people and 591.03 thousand disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs). The study also found that LC-NAFLD was more common in men than women and had increased by 68.32% from 2005 to 2019. The study concludes that effective measures are needed to address the rapidly increasing burden of LC-NAFLD, especially in low sociodemographic index regions and men.
