This review highlights how transforming growth factors (TGFs) — key signaling molecules in the body — contribute to inflammatory lung injury, repair, and fibrosis. Drawing from both human and preclinical studies, it explores how TGF isoforms (α, β1, β2, β3) regulate immune responses, epithelial healing, and fibrotic remodeling in conditions like ARDS and pneumonia. Understanding these pathways may pave the way for targeted therapies that balance inflammation and tissue regeneration in lung diseases.
