The safety and immunogenicity of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine in old pulmonary tuberculosis patients

The study aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (OPTB) history. The study cohort included 93 OPTB patients and 106 healthy controls who received two vaccine doses. The study found that the incidence of adverse events was similar in both groups, and no severe adverse events occurred. However, the OPTB patients had lower concentrations of antibodies against the receptor-binding domain (RBD)-IgG and CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies, and the frequencies of RBD-specific memory B cells were also lower in OPTB patients than in healthy controls. The immunogenicity was limited in the OPTB patient population, although inactivated COVID-19 vaccinations were well tolerated.
