The study aimed to identify the association between organ-specific disease activity, autoantibodies, and other clinical factors with systemic interferon-1 (IFN1) activity in adult patients with dermatomyositis (DM). The research analyzed 355 whole blood samples from 202 well-phenotyped DM patients using RNA sequencing. The study found that the IFN1 pathway was upregulated in DM patients, and the IFN1 score was associated with skin and muscle disease activity, interstitial lung disease, and anti-MDA5 antibodies. The study also suggested that the IFN1 blockade could be a potential therapeutic strategy for DM.
