This study investigated the effects of exercise, the medication liraglutide, and the combination of both on glucose tolerance, glucagon response, and beta cell function in obese individuals without diabetes who underwent a low-calorie diet. After 1 year of treatment, the combination of exercise and liraglutide was found to be the most effective in improving glucose tolerance, beta cell function, and glucagon response compared to placebo, while liraglutide alone improved glucose tolerance but not beta cell function or glucagon response, and exercise alone had no significant effects.
